4 tips to Overcome sadness in Islam

sadness is normal in life, but protracted in grief is not good. For Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has created all pairs, there is a heaven, day and night, man-woman, and surely there is joy and sorrow.

Something excessive is not good, nor is it in grief. So do not be weak because of sadness, arise because after the sadness there must be happiness. We do not need to grieve, for God is always with us.

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said:

وَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا۟ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And do not grieve, even though you are the highest of the believers. (Q.S. Ali ‘Imran : 139).

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala also said:

“Do not grieve; Qs. At Taubah: 40)

1. Multiply the remembrance to God

In addition to rewarding, dhikr also makes the heart calm and the sadness will subside.

From Abu Hurayrah, the Prophet (pbuh) said, “Whoever reads subhanallah every finished prayer 33 x read alhamdulillah 33 x, read Allahu Akbar 33x to become 99. he said then perfected into a hundred with Laa ilaha illallah wahdahu’ laa syarikalah, lahul mulku walahul hamdu wahuwa ala kulli Syaiin qadir, forgiven his sins even like the froth of the sea.” (HR. Muslims).

2. Multiply Shalawat

if you remember Allah diligently and then pray, then god willing’s grief will be gone. Sholawat in addition to being able to facilitate all affairs, can also calm the heart.

3. Multiply sunah prayers

Wake up at night when people are asleep, then perform sunnah prayers. Prayer is a form of our communication to God, so at that time speak to God, stir everything to God, and ask God.

4. Optimistic in life

Stay optimistic in life by relying on God. God will not test His servant beyond the capacity of the servant. God also promises behind difficulties there is ease.

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said in surah Ar-Ra’d verse 11 which means:

“For mankind there are angels who follow him in turns, before and behind him, they guard him by the command of God. God does not change a people until they change what is in their own selves. And if Allah wills evil for a people, none can a thing but reject it; And there is no protector for them but Him” (QS Ar-Ra’d: 11).

With optimism in living life, we will be more eager to carry out worship, and spirit to work and strive.
