5 Position of the Child in Islam

A child is a trust placed on the shoulders of parents. In his hadith, the Prophet (pbuh) explained the condition and position of children and parents.
Here is the hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah RA:

It means: “Every child born on a fitrah (holy). It was his parents who made him Jewish, Magi, or Christian.” (Narrated by Al-Bukhaari and Muslim).

Here is the position of the child in Islam:

1. Child is Trust from Allah SWT

The child is a trustee of Allah SWT that is left to his parents. Therefore, children must be well cared for and cared for in order to grow and develop, both temporally and spiritually. Every human being is created to be His servant.

Allah SWT said in QS. Az-Zariyat verse 56 is as follows:

It means: “I did not create the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me.” Qs. Az-Zariyat: 56)

Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah asserted, one day Allah SWT will ask parents for responsibility about the mandate given. Whether the mandate is properly fulfilled or not.

2. Grace and blessings from Allah SWT

Children are gifts and favors derived from Allah SWT. The presence of a child can provide happiness for his parents. As He said in QS. ash-Shura verses 49-50 are as follows:

3. Trials and trials

In addition to being a gift and favor from Allah SWT, the child is also a test and a trial for his parents. This is affirmed in QS. At-Taghabun verse 15.

It means: “Your possessions and your children are but a trial, and with Allah is a great reward.” Qs. At-Taghabun: 15)

Children can make parents arrogant and not be grateful for the blessings of God. Sometimes they feel proudest and tallest than others.

4. Child is Successor of the lineage

The child is descended from the parents. His birth became the successor to the ideals of life and the preservation of the lineage of his parents. Therefore, it is important for parents to educate their children well.

5. Conservationists reward parents

A righteous child is a child whose attitude and behavior reflects faith and Islam. Righteous children have obedience and submission to the laws of Allah SWT and His messenger.

It also benefits others. That is the blessing that will guarantee the granting of prayers for both parents.

It is mentioned in a Hadith of the Muslim narration derived from Abu Hurayrah ra.

It means: “From Abu Hurayrah ra. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When the man dies, all his deeds will be cut off except three: the alms of jariyah, the useful knowledge, or the righteous son who prays to him.” (HR. Muslim)
