6 Facts of the Children of Israil in the Qur’an
Bani Israil or The Children of Israil are mentioned many times in the Qur’an. In fact, most of the Qur’an tells the story of Moses and the Children of Israel.
The Qur’an deals in depth with the history of the Children of Israel, including their wickedness and retribution. What does the Qur’an reveal about the Children of Israel?
1. The Origin of the House of Israil
The House of Israel is called by this name because Israel is another name for the prophet Yaqub. From the twelve sons of the prophet Jacob then appeared twelve tribes that formed the House of Israel.
After Joseph became minister of Egypt, his entire family moved there. So the origin of the Banu of Israel began in Egypt. They lived there peacefully until pharaohs captivated them.
They were treated like animals, their children were killed and women were taken as slaves. Allah mentions this terrible ordeal for the Children of Israel several times in the Qur’an.
Allah says in the Quran:
وَإِذْ نَجَّيْنَاكُمْ مِنْ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوءَ الْعَذَابِ يُذَبِّحُونَ أَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَاءَكُمْ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكُمْ بَلَاءٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ
“And (remember) when We delivered you from Pharaoh’s people who were afflicting you with a torment like this, and we were not going to believe in you.” They have afflicted you with the heaviest punishment, slaughtering your sons and spared your daughters. And in that there were great trials from your Lord.” Qs Al-Baqarah: 49
Then Moses delivered the Children of Israel from pharaoh’s hand. Again this story is narrated in the Qur’an in some places.
“And We made the oppressed people heirlooms, the eastern parts of the earth, and the western parts therein which We have blessed.
And the words of your Lord were perfected for the Children of Israel because of their patience. And We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people had created, and what they had built.” Qs Al A’raf 137
2. The Privileges of the Children of Israil
The House of Israel suffered unspeakable torment. They endured all that, but still believed.
God honored the Children of Israel by choosing them to be His special servants.
“And certainly We gave the Children of Israel the Book, power and prophethood, and provided them with good things, and preferred them over the nations.” Qs Al-Jasiyah: 16
Why did God choose an entire nation of “wicked” people to be His special servants? The fact that God made them special proves that there is something special in them.
This is highlighted in His Word:
وَلَقَدِ اخْتَرْنَاهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ
“And certainly We chose them with knowledge over the nations.” Qs Dukhan: 32
Although as we know, all the messengers of Allah are Muslim, most of the prophets who came after Ibrahim, Isaac, and Jacob were descendants of the Children of Israel, except the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
David, Solomon, Yahya, Zakariyah, Jesus, and many others, all of whom were believers of the descendants of the Children of Israel.
And they were certainly exemplary human beings.
3. The evil of the Children of Israil mentioned in the Quran
Some of the Children of Israel did idolatiously, killed the prophet, and changed the scriptures.
Allah says of them in the Qur?an:
لُعِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَلَىٰ لِسَانِ دَاوُودَ وَعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوْا وَكَانُوا يَعْتَدُونَ
The unbelievers of the Children of Israel were cursed by the words of David and Jesus, son of Mary. That is because they disobeyed and transgressed. (QS Al-Maidah: 78)
So this is a specific group of people from the House of Israel, not the entire House of Israel.
4. The Children of Israel in Medina at the time of The Prophet Muhammad SAW
In the days of our Prophet, the Jewish scriptures were corrupted, lost once, then “found” again in the Temple after about a hundred years, then lost again and rewritten after another pause. All these facts are recognized by historians.
The Rabbis had exclusive control over all their scriptures and religious affairs in fact deciding what was right and wrong for a mass that generally knew nothing.
So when the Prophet came, these rabbis felt threatened by the loss of their religious power and opposed it. The masses generally followed their Rabbis.
But there are exceptions. There were people of Jewish descent, there was even one Rabbi, who became a Muslim and a friend of the Prophet.
In fact, one of the wives of the Prophet Muhammad SAW was a devout Jew who converted to Islam and became a umahatul mukminin.
5. Occupying Palestine
The people who oppress Palestinian Muslims are not the only Jews in the world. They are a group that calls themselves “Zionists”.
Before they came to Palestine, there had never been a battle between The Israelites and Muslims in the entire history of Islam for hundreds of years.
These Zionists were actually opposed by Jews who did not want to make trouble with Muslims. There are still many Jews who do not support the Zionist state of Israel.
6. Why are the Children of Israel so often mentioned in the Qur’an?
The Children of Israel are so often mentioned in the Quran because they are most similar to Muslims. They are biological, geographical, and spiritual cousins of Muslims. Many of their mistakes are highlighted in the Koran.
why? So that we learn from them and not make the same mistakes. Isn’t there anyone who claims to be Muslim who worships graves? The Quran is protected by Allah, but isn’t there a Muslim who lies about religion and links the lie to the Quran?
Aren’t there Muslims who oppress other Muslims? Aren’t Muslims humiliated all over the world for what is done with their own hands?
We are chosen by God just as the Children of Israel were chosen, and we can make the same mistakes they made to lose God’s favor. Everyone is equal in the eyes of God, and the only thing that makes some people better than others is his laughter.
