7 Similarities of Jinn and Man in the Quran

One of the signs of a believer is that he believes in the unseen both nature and creatures. In the Quran it is clearly mentioned of this.

“Those who believe in the unseen, who establish prayer, and give them some of the sustenance we give them.” (QS.Al Baqarah [2]: 3)

Among them is the existence of the jinn and its world. Jinn is one form of evil that we believe in its existence because it is one of the faiths that believe in the unseen. Explaining something unseen can certainly be with sensory glasses or based on empirical data but with faith-based on the explanation of the Quran and the hadith of the Prophet.

Related to this Jinn creature what we can explain only based on the Qur’an and hadith alone, especially the existence of elements of similarity and of course there are differences.

Based on the explanation of the Quran and hadith, man and jinn are creatures of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. Which has a number of similarities with humans.

1. Jinn and man were created to worship God.

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me.” (Q.S. Adz-Dzaariyat [51]: 56).

Man and jinn are responsible for serving of God. They have a number of obligations that must be carried out as manifestations in devotion to Him.

2. Jinn and humans have the ability to think

One time the Prophet (peace be upon him) read the Quran, and a group of jinn came to listen to it. After listening to the prophet’s reading, the jinn concluded what he was listening to. They said,

“We have listened to the wonderful Qur’an, which leads to the right way, and we believed in it. And we will never associate anyone with our Lord.” (Q.S. Jin [72]:1-2)

The Name Of The Devil Warrior And His Duties

This verse indicates that the jinn is capable of thinking. Without the ability to think, there was no way they could draw conclusions. Isn’t thinking a process of making conclusions?

3. among the jinn and mankind there are believers and nonbelievers (disbelievers)

Just like humans, there are jinn who are shalih there are also those who disbelieve, some are obedient and some are defiant.

“And among us there are those who are righteous, and among us there are ungodly. We are on a different path.” (Q.S. Jin [72]: 11).

This verse affirms that the jinn take different paths; Some take the path of disobedience, there are also those who take the path of error.

4. get reward and sin

The consequences of godliness are the reward of heaven and the consequences of defiance are the sanction of hell. Some jinn go to hell, some go to heaven, just like humans.

“As for those who deviate from the truth, they become the firewood of Jahannam. And if they continue to walk straight on the path of Islam, we will give them fresh water.” (Q.S.Al Jin [72]: 15-16).

This verse confirms that there are jinn who get the punishment of hell, and some get rewarded with pleasure.

5. Know gender.

People know the male and female sexes. This also happens in the jin world; There are men and there are women, and there are women. Look at the following verse.

“And that there are some men among men asking for protection to some men among the jinn, so the jinn add to them sin and error.” (Q.S. Al Jin [72]: 6).

Explicitly this verse mentions the sex of the jinn which is male. If there is a male jinn, then there is a female jinn.

6. Breeding

If the jin know the gender, then they also have biological desires and breeding.

“…Should you take the devil (the disobedient jinn) and his descendants as leaders other than Me, while they are your enemies? It is very bad that the devil is God’s substitute for the unjust.” (Q.S.Al Kahfi [18]: 50).

The word “and his descendants” in this verse confirms that the jinn is of human nature.

7. Need some foods.

Abu Hurayrah r.a., once brought a vessel filled with wudhu water to the Prophet (peace be upon him). When he delivered the vessel, the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked,

“Who are you?” He replied, “I am Abu Hurayrah.” The Prophet said, “Find me some stones, I will use them to purify, and do not bring me bones and animal feces.” Then I brought some stones that I had brought in my cloth until I placed them nearby, and then I turned away. When he finished, I walked with him and I asked, “Why should animal bones and feces not be used to purify?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) explained, “Both things are jinn food.” (H.R. Bukhari).
