6 Animals that are haram and can’t be killed in Islam

God has subjected everything on earth to man, including animals and plants. These animals and plants have many benefits that can be beneficial for human life.

Animals are one that contributes many benefits to humans, for example from chickens we can enjoy meat and eggs that are full of nutrients and protein, then from cows we can enjoy the meat and milk, then from the bees we can enjoy the honey, and so on.

However, of the many types of animals on this earth, there are some animals that God prohibited for humans. In addition to being a form of testing for humans, it is also because God forbids us to kill these animals.

What animals should not be killed in Islam? Here’s one of them.

Ants are included in the type of insects, based on scientific data the types of ants contain up to more than 12,000 species. Ants have a small size, but make no mistake even though small, ants are one of the strongest animals in the world.

Imagine, a male ant is able to support a load weighing fifty times its own body weight, can be compared to an elephant that is only able to support the load with a weight of twice its own weight.

Ants are also one of the animals that are forbidden to be killed in Islam, this is in accordance with the hadith of the Prophet (saw). From Abu Hurayrah ra that the Prophet said,

“One of the ants once bit one of the prophets, then the prophet ordered to go to the anthill and burn it. But Allah then sent down the revelation to him: ‘Is it only because an ant bites you that you destroy a faithful people?’ [HR. Muslim]

2. Hud-Hud Bird, Animals that haram to kill

Hud-Hud bird is a very famous bird in the story of Prophet Solomon. He was a very clever bird, he also became a messenger of The Prophet Solomon to deliver a letter to Queen Bilqis.

Most scholars say the bee law is the same as ants with the above hadith, namely the prohibition of killing them and the prohibition of eating them. But scholars explain that the prohibition of killing bees because it produces honey that is useful for humans.

4. Shurad

Shurad is a large-headed and big beaked bird, its stomach is white, its back is green, preys on insects and small birds. This bird is larger than a sparrow and sometimes preys on sparrows.

The prohibition of killing the four animals above is in accordance with the following hadith, “The Prophet prohibited killing four kinds of animals namely ants, bees, hud-hud, and shurad” [Hr. Abu Daud]

In a hadith, the Prophet was once asked by a physician about a frog being used as a mixture of medicine, then the Prophet forbade killing him. Ahmad, Al-Hakim, and Nasa’i]

2. Spiders, Animals that haram to kill

Spiders are forbidden to be killed because this animal once helped the Prophet when he was in the cave of Tsur accompanied by his true friend Abu Bakr. In it the Prophet and Abu Bakr did not cease to dhikr and pray to Allah.

They hid from the disbelievers of quraysh. The men then went to the mouth of the cave to ascertain whether the prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr were in it.

But what did they get when they got there? At the mouth of the cave there is a cobweb that is still perfectly intact and there they also get two pigeons.

They are very confident that there is no one inside. From this story it is clear the role of spiders to save the Prophet Muhammad from the pursuit of the infidels.

These are some of the animals that are illegally killed in Islam. Good luck, thank you.
