Moslimdaily | Alms become one of the good deeds recommended by the Prophet SAW. The last Prophet encourages us to always give alms by giving what is owned even though it is only a date.
There is no specific benchmark for giving alms in the way of Allah SWT. Even smiling to others has been counted alms in the sight of God. As long as it is done sincerely and only expects pleasure from Him.
There are many virtues and benefits that will be obtained for people who like to give alms. In addition to the value of worship, it turns out that alms are also beneficial for the health of the human body. How can alms be beneficial for health? Here’s more information.
Giving charity in addition to benefiting to help meet the needs of people who are starving, can also extinguish the mistakes that have been done. This is in accordance with the words of the Prophet (PBUH):
“Give alms, even with a date-palm. And if you are in need of a human being, then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful. (Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jami)
Giving something to others even if it is only a little bit of the rate will not only make the person who is given alms happy because their needs are met. Giving the wealth that is owned to make others happy can also provide a “miracle” for the overall health of the body.
The conclusion was derived from a study conducted at the Department of Psychology University of British Columbia. Reported by Huffingtonpost, the researchers managed to link using other people’s money with a drop in blood pressure.
Moreover, if the money is spent on charitable activities such as donating orphan activities, becoming donors of da’wah activities or simply giving alms to beggars or those who need help.
The study was divided into two parts. The first part involved 128 participants aged 40 and over who were diagnosed with high blood pressure.
The group was given some money to spend over six weeks. After that they are given the option of spending the aung for themselves or for others.
Some of them choose to spend the money by helping others such as charity. It turns out that those who do this systolic and diastolic blood pressure shows a decrease.
The opposite happens to those who spend the money for themselves such as shopping and others do not experience changes in their health.
The discovery is strong evidence that spending money to share with others can lead to significant improvements to physical health.
In addition, researchers also assessed that if high blood pressure does alms or shares happiness with others on a regular basis, then there will be long-term benefits in terms of health.
In the second part of the study, researchers analyzed data from 186 elderly people with high blood pressure. The figures show that the more money spent on the happiness of others will make blood pressure lower in the next two years.
Long before this fact was discovered by researchers, Islam had encouraged its people to give a lot of alms. Even the Prophet (pbuh) has also given evidence about the link between alms and treating pain suffered by a person.
This is in accordance with the words of the Prophet (pbuh):
“Treat your pain with alms, fortify your wealth with zakat, and prepare for trials with prayer.” (HR. Baihaqi)
