Islam Forbids Insulting God of Other Religions

Islam is one of the religions embraced by mankind. In addition to Islam there are also other religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and so on. Every religion has its own beliefs.

But this is often a debate among mankind. Not a few religions that insult God from other religions. So this often causes hostility among religious people.

In Islam, insulting God to another religion is strictly forbidden. Because it can cause great damage. Not only for himself but also for Allah SWT.

Indeed Islam regulates all the joints of life, including the prohibition of reproach, ridicule, insult or discredit the deity of adherents of other religions. Because it is so important, Allah SWT also regulates this. As He said :

“And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.” (Qs al-An’am: 108)

It started from the actions of the Muslims who denounced the deity of the infidel Quraysh. Then they said to Allah SWT, “O Messenger of Allaah, stop your scolding tehadap our deployment or we will reproach your Lord.”

So the Prophet (pbuh) also forbade his people to insult the deity of the infidels. So Allah SWT finally forbade the Muslims to insult the deity of these people. Therefore, the surah al-An’am verse 108 is sent down.

At that time, Muslims were mocking the idols of the disbelievers, so that they retaliated by insulting Allah SWT excessively without little knowledge in themselves.

Definition, Beliefs, and Teachings in Islam

When interpreting surah al-An’am verse 108, Imam Ibnu Katsir explained in tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Adzim, that Allah SWT forbids the Prophet PBUH and the believers to insult the idolaters

Islam prohibits its people from insulting other religions. Islam also prohibits forcing others to convert to Islam.

The duty of mankind is to convey or invite others to the right path, without compulsion except by consent.
