Obligatory Nature of the Prophet In Islam

Messenger is the chosen man of Allah SWT who conveys revelations to his ummah. They serve as guides, bearers of glad tidings, and warnings to the people. Of course a task like this is not easy to run by an ordinary human being

Although the apostles are a human in general, but as a human chosen by Allah SWT, the apostle has attributes attached to him.

These are the truths of an apostle. The attributes of this apostle should be exemplary by us, as his people. This is called the obligatory nature of the apostle.

1. Shidiq – Obligatory Nature of the Prophet

Shidiq means always right. The apostles always say the right, both true in delivering revelations sourced from Allah SWT, and true in words related to worldly issues.

For example, what abraham said. to his father was the right word. What his father Abraham worshipped was something that did not benefit him. This event is enshrined in the word of Allah SWT:

وَاذۡكُرۡ فِى الۡكِتٰبِ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ ۚ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ صِدِّيۡقًا نَّبِيًّا

And mention in the Book Abraham, indeed he is a truthful man. She said, “O Mary, I have come to you with a clear book from your Lord.

2. Trust – Obligatory Nature of the Prophet

Trust means trustworthy. The apostles always carry out their prophetic duties in accordance with the task given by Allah SWT.

him. And they guard their souls and bodies from sin, so that they may be preserved.

When noah’s people were a people. denying what he brought. Allah SWT confirms that Noah as. is a trusted person (trustee). This is as stated in the following surah:

اِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ اَخُوۡهُمۡ نُوۡحٌ اَلَا تَتَّقُوۡنَ, اِنِّىۡ لَـكُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ اَمِيۡنٌۙ

It means: “When their brother (Noah) said to them, “Will you not be godfearing”; I am indeed a messenger of faith to you.” (Q.S. ash-Shu’ara: 106-107)

3. Tabligh – Obligatory Nature of the Messenger

Tabligh means to convey the commandments and prohibitions, the Apostle always delivers revelations. And none of the verses which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concealed, nor was he conveyed to his people.

In a narration narrated that Ali ibn Abi Talib was asked about revelations that are not contained in the Qur’an, Ali also confirmed that contained in the following verse:

It means: “O Messenger! Deliver what your Lord has sent down to you. If you do not do so, then you will not deliver His message. And Allah protects you from mankind. God does not guide the unbelievers. Qs. Al-Maidah: 67

4. Fathanah

Fathanah means intelligent. It means that the apostles have intelligence in carrying out the mandate, duties, and responsibilities as an apostle.

They are able to understand the problems of the people while giving a way out. They are able to present arguments for those who oppose it. And they are able to instill truth into the hearts of those who doubt.

For example, when there was a dispute between the tribes in Mecca, each group imposed the will to place the Hajar Aswad (black stone) on the Kaaba. Rasulullah SAW then mediated in the way all the groups in dispute to hold the end of the cloth that he brought.

Then, the Prophet laid the stone in the middle of it, and they all lifted up to the top of the Kaaba. What a smart prophet saw.
