What Language Does Hud Communicate In?
Prophet Hud was the son of Sam ibn Noah and grandson of Noah. He married Melka binti Madai bin Japeth. Hud is believed to be the first person to communicate using Arabic. Hud died at the age of 472. Buried in the red sand dunes, in the Hadramaut region.
Prphet Hud Facts: What is special about the Ad?
The body of the ‘Ad is strong and large in height. At that time no single people could match the power and greatness of the ‘Ad. They have a high civilization. Good at farming and raising livestock. They live in very fertile areas and abundant water.
Their wealth is also much incalculable. With that wealth, they were good at building grand and tall buildings, houses, and palaces. The ‘Ad people are notoriously intelligent. They lived in Iram City, between the lands of Oman and present-day Yemen.
Proselytizing Prophet Hud
The ‘Ad lived in the al-Ahqaf area, precisely between ar-Rub’ al-Khali and Hadramaut. Allah said, ”
Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.And remember the brother of ’Ȃd, when he warned his people, who inhabited the sand-hills1—there were certainly warners before and after him—˹saying,˺ “Worship none but Allah. I truly fear for you the torment of a tremendous day.”,” (QS.al Ahqaf : 21).
God has given them large and strong bodies, as recorded in His words, “Do you find it astonishing that a reminder should come to you from your Lord through one of your own so he may warn you? Remember that He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you greatly in stature. So remember Allah’s favours, so you may be successful.” (QS. Al-A’raf : 69).
The ‘Ad people were Arab caravans who lived in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula after the faithful Prophet Noah survived a devastating flood.
They then built houses, industries, and had an advanced civilization that had never existed before.
Residents of Iram
Allah describes their city in His words, “Have you not (Muhammad) noticed how your Rabb did to (the people) ‘Ad? (That is) the inhabitants of Iram (the capital of the ‘Ad) who had tall buildings, which had never been built (a city) as such, in other lands,”(QS. Al-Fajr : 6-8).
Historians describe the city in detail by mentioning their palaces that were so large, magnificent, decorated with gemstones, and surrounded by high fences.
This variety of favors and abundant kindnesses should be grateful for them. Instead, they are immersed in physical pleasures and worldly pleasures. They then worshipped three idols, namely Shada, Shamud, and Haba.
Allah then sent the Prophet Hud to invite them on the straight path after previously confirming Allah. They condemned God without any real evidence.
The ‘Ad, Disobeying God
The ‘Ad also removed God’s sharia from their lives.
God said in Suraa Asy-Syu’ara123-134 :
“The people of ’Âd rejected the messengers. when their brother Hûd said to them, “Will you not fear ˹Allah˺?. I am truly a trustworthy messenger to you.. So fear Allah, and obey me.. Fear the One Who has provided you with ˹the good˺ things you know. He provided you with cattle, and children, and gardens, and springs.”
The prophet Hud invited his people in a good way, but they opposed his invitation. God said, “They said, “Have you come to us so that we would worship Allah alone and abandon what our forefathers used to worship? Then bring us what you threaten us with, if what you say is true!”(QS. Al-A’raf : 70).
The Ad People In the Doom of God
When Hud used all convincing means to instruct his people, signs of pride from them began to appear in defiance of his teachings. They said to him as described in the Qur’an, “They responded, “It is all the same to us whether you warn ˹us˺ or not. This is simply the tradition of our predecessors. And we will never be punished.”(QS. Asy-Syu’ara’ : 136-138).
Allah also doomed them with a very poignant doom after the Prophet Hud and his faithful followers were saved.
The event is recorded in the Qur’an, “They responded, “It is all the same to us whether you warn ˹us˺ or not. This is simply the tradition of our predecessors. And we will never be punished.”. Then when they saw the torment as a ˹dense˺ cloud approaching their valleys, they said ˹happily˺, “This is a cloud bringing us rain.” ˹But Hûd replied,˺ “No, it is what you sought to hasten: a ˹fierce˺ wind carrying a painful punishment!” (QS. Al-Ahqaf : 24-25).
