Jinn is one of God’s creatures that coexists with the dimensions of human nature. Often, humans get interference from the jinn for example when the jinn begins to show its form or incarnate into a certain creature. Even when the genie enters the human body it is called possession. This is a disturbing thing for humans.
How do Muslims prevent and deal with something like this?
Every Muslim has the potential to be influenced or possessed by satan. So it is appropriate if a Muslim to always ask Allah SWT to be given protection from the temptations of the cursed devil.
Satan literally comes from the word syathana with the meaning ‘away.’ The creature is called satan because he is far from the path of truth.
There are also those who say that satan from the word syâtha which means burning or void. Ibn Jamir said, Satan in Arabic is any ungodly of the jinn, man or animal, or of everything.
So how can Muslims avoid satan’s temptations?
1. Take refuge in God (Isti’adzah), satan will stay away from you
Allah (SWT) has commanded his servants to continue to ask for protection from satan so that they are kept away from acts that are forbidden by religion. Allah (SWT) says in Surah Al-Araf verse 200:
وَإِمَّا يَنْزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
“And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing.” (Al-A’raf: 200).
Isti’adzah is asking for God’s protection from satan’s evil while we are in various places and conditions. for example, when we are traveling, Adventure in the forest, and so on.
2. commitment to the teachings of Islam
The most appropriate way to avoid satan’s temptation is to commit to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet by practicing both after knowing and exploring them.
Both came to lead man to the right way, while Satan was earnest to lead man from the right way.
3. Always praying Dhikr to protect you from satan
Remembrance becomes the most powerful shield to prevent satan’s temptations. The Prophet Yahya ‘Alaihissalam said to the Children of Israel: “… And I exhort you to dhikr to Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla because by dhikr is likened to someone who is chased by the enemy and he runs away to his fortress. It was in the fortress that he took refuge.”
4. Gather with salih people
Always being with people shalih becomes one of the tips for us to avoid the deeds of the maxiat. Gathering with the shalihin who always advocate us kindness can save us from the deceitfulness of satan and the devil.
As the Prophet said:
“Whoever wants the pleasure of paradise among you, let him always join the Muslim congregation because the devil is near one who is alone and will be eliminated from two or more people.” Tirmidhi).
