The Other Names of the Quran

As a holy book, the Quran has several other names that are often used. Here are some names of the Quran

1) The Book.

The meaning of the Book is a book, which is taken based on the word of God Almighty in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 2 is:

ذٰلِكَ الْكِتٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيْهِ ۛ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِيْنَ

It means: “There is no doubt about this Book. guidance for the pious.”

2) Al-Furqan is Names of the Quran

The meaning of ‘furqan’ is ‘differentiator’, so Al Furqan means ‘to be a true and wrong differentiator’. The name is taken from QS. Al-Furqon verse 1 which reads:

تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًا

It means: “Glory be to Allah, who has sent down the Qur’an to His servant, that he may be a warner to all the worlds.”

3) Az-Zikr.

And remember Allah much, and remember Allah much. The name is taken from QS. Al-Hijr verse 9 which reads thus:

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

It means: “It is We who have sent down the Qur’an, and We are its guardians.”

4) Al-Huda is Names of the Quran

And if you are in a matter of truth, or one of you is on a day wherein you will be guided, or you are a sign for a people. Huda is the word in surah Al-Baqarah verse 185 as follows:

شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدَىٰ وَالْفُرْقَانِ ۚ

It means: “The month of Ramadan, the month in which the Qur’an was revealed as a guide for mankind and explanations of the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).”

5) An-Nur is Names of the Quran

Nur in Arabic means light, so the meaning of An Nur is the Quran is a light of guidance and an illuminator for the human heart. The evidence is surah An-Nur:40:

اِذَآ اَخْرَجَ يَدَهٗ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرٰىهَاۗ وَمَنْ لَّمْ يَجْعَلِ اللّٰهُ لَهٗ نُوْرًا فَمَا لَهٗ مِنْ نُّوْرٍ

“He to whom Allah has not given light has no light.”

6) Al-Bayyinah

That is a sign in the Qur’an wherein there is a clear sign. It is taken from surah Al-Bayyinah verse 1 as follows:

لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ وَالْمُشْرِكِيْنَ مُنْفَكِّيْنَ حَتّٰى تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُۙ

Those who disbelieve say that they will not abandon their religion before there comes to them a clear proof.
