All Muslims are obliged to seek knowledge, and of course converts who have just converted to Islam should learn as much as possible about Islam since they proclaimed the shahada.
Understand the basic teachings of Islam
In the early stages, understanding the basis of Islamic teachings can be confusing. However, this must be understood and properly held by all Muslims.
The starting point that must be understood is the five pillars of Islam, namely: Shahada, prayer, Zakat, Fasting in Ramadan and Hajj. The five pillars of Islam give a Muslim an identity and help him bond with Allah.
Then, learning the basics of Islam, from authentic sources, was one of the first ways in which a new Muslim could seek knowledge.
Talk to the Imam or local religious leader and ask him or her to recommend an Islamic book to help learn the basics of Islam.
Read and learn about the Quran
There are many converts who do not understand the Qur’anic lafadz. However, they can read the translation of the Qur’an and then interpret it through the guidance of imam or Ustadz.
A new Muslim can benefit greatly and understand the message of the Qur’an by reading the translation at least once.
There are so many Muslims who do not understand the message and substance of the Qur’an because they only read without knowing the meaning of the Holy Scriptures themselves.
Reading Islamic books
There are many Islamic books on the market today that teach everything about being a Muslim. The book teaches everything from how to treat others to how to live a halal lifestyle.
Good and authentic Islamic books also include verses from the Quran or Hadith that support each recommendation. It is important to make sure that you choose a book that is in accordance with the Qur’an and Sunnah.
If in doubt, ask the Imam or Ustadz at the mosque to verify the book is trustworthy. In addition to these books, a new Muslim can gain great insight into Islam by reading a biography of the Prophet Muhammad.
The books of Tafsir, Hadith, and Fiqh are also resources that can help a Muslim grow his faith. Although it is important to deepen the knowledge of Islam, one should not be rash in understanding Islam.
It is important to continue to carry out the obligations of prayer five times and also do daily work. When deepening islamic knowledge, converts must achieve balance by still carrying out the duties of aspects of their lives while studying Islamic knowledge.
Therefore, time management is needed for converts in maintaining that balance.
