Uncle of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH

The Prophet’s grandfather, Abdul Muttalib had 10 sons, one of whom was Abdullah the father of the Prophet Muhammad.

The Prophet had nine uncles, two of whom converted to Islam. Some of the Prophet Muhammad’s Uncles were : Al Abbas, Hamzah, Abdullah, Abu Talib, Zubair, Al Harith, Hajl, Al Muqawwim, Dhirar, and Abu Lahab. Only Al Abbas and Hamzah converted to Islam.


Hamzah bin Abdul Muttalib is known as the ‘Lion of Allah’. He converted to Islam in the sixth year of Hijri, before Umar ibn Khattab.

Previously Hamza participated in the hijrah with the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليي وسلم to Medina. He also participated in the Battle of Badr and Uhud. Hamzah was martyred during the Battle of Uhud, where he died by spear attack from a distance.

Abu Lahab, prophet’s uncle who rejected Islam

He did much harm to the Prophet with great evil. Even Allah sent down a special letter for him and to his wife the firewood bearer, who denounced and threatened them both.

Abu Lahab bin Abdul Muttalib bin Hashim was one of the Prophet’s uncles. Lahab means ‘the blazing.’ The name was pinned because as a child he was known from his bright-looking face.

Allah cursed Abu Lahab. His name is even enshrined through surah al-Lahab which consists of five verses.

Abu Talib, Prophet’s uncle who loved the Prophet

Although he did not convert to Islam. He did good to the Prophet with many good deeds. As a quraish prince, he was so respected and respected by his people. Utilizing that position, Abu Talib sought to protect the Prophet Muhammad from the evil committed by the Quraysh to the prophet Muhammad.

In addition, the Prophet Muhammad’s uncle who embraced Islam is Al’Abbas and Hamzah. Hamza was martyred in the battle of Uhud. The Prophet Muhammad also referred to Hamza as sayyidu asyuhada (leader of the martyrs).

In history, there have been a number of non-Muslim friends of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who were involved and contributed to the spread of Islam. Three of them include Abu Talib, Abdullah bin Uraiqit, and Addas.

Abu Talib had his real name Abdul Manaf. He took care of the Prophet Muhammad when he was 8 years old. Previously, little Muhammad was cared for by his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib Abu Talib’s father.

Although not his biological child, Abu Thalib and his wife, Fatimah bint Asad loved Muhammad very much. Even since childhood, Muhammad always slept next to Abu Talib. Wherever Abu Talib traveled, Muhammad always came and was invited.

Abu Talib always protected the Prophet Muhammad from the threat of the Quraysh. Although he did not convert to Islam, Abu Talib never opposed the faith brought by the prophet Muhammad.
