Abu Dhabi has many beautiful mosques, one of which is Mohammed Bin Zayed Mosque. Keep tolerance, this masjid changed its name to ‘Mary Mother of Jesus’.
Abu Dhabi is one of the most influential cities in the UAE. Although the majority of the population is Muslim, Abu Dhabi has a high tolerance for other people.
This is evident from the stance of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. In order to strengthen religious tolerance, the Crown Prince decided to rename Mohammed Bin Zayed Mosque.
Mohammed Bin Zayed Mosque is widely known for its beauty. Although not as grand as the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, but Mohammed Bin Zayed Mosque is no less beautiful.
Seeing the many visits of other religious people to this masjid, the Crown Prince also changed the name of Mohammed Bin Zayed to Mariam um Eisa, aka ‘Mary Mother of Jesus’.
Mary Mother of Jesus Mosque
In order to echo religious tolerance, the Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi has just been renamed to ‘Mariam um Eisa’ Mosque, or meaning ‘Mary Mother of Jesus’.
This mosque can be found in Al Mushrif District, Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The renaming was decided by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to promote harmony of social relations between followers of different religions and highlight the similarities of Islam and Christianity, according to the UAE’s official news agency.
The change of name of the masjid also received a positive reception from the Head of the UAE Islamic Affairs and Waqf Agency, Mohammad Mattar Al Kaabi.
He emphasized that interfaith harmony in the UAE has been maintained since the reign of Emir Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Religious people live peacefully and harmoniously.
“It is based on justice and brotherhood among all people living in the United Arab Emirates,” Al Kaabi said.
Interestingly, the location of the ‘Mary Mother of Jesus’ Mosque is also close to st Andrews Anglican Church. Senior Anglican Priest Andrew Thompson welcomed the UAE government’s initiative to foster religious tolerance.
“Mary, Mother of Jesus, is a holy, special figure. It’s a symbol of obedience to God,” Thompson said.
He also hopes that in the future interfaith harmony in the United Arab Emirates, especially between Muslims and Christians continues to increase.
